about

Originally released on Mental Groove records in 2015 as Theatrical Techno Illustrated on CD only.

This album is a collection of the trio's classic underground house & electronica releases between their short lived activity from 1990 to 1995. Taken from Balance Records, Scien records, their own Kooky Grooves imprint and Lovejoy's DAT library.

Below is a writing by Simon Lovejoy to immerse you in their trip to japan where he first meet Kiyoshi:

The music of Tokyo Offshore Project. Winter 1990.
Airport, London, DJ Frankie turns up from club land in a taxi. Departure lounge. Waiting for the flight announcement to Tokyo. Sitting making grooves with Roland 202, borrowed from DJ Choci. A Mile High Mix. 2 airports. Alaska thenTokyo, stamp passport, future city drive through, Rainbow bridge, over highway, over expressway, introduction of Kiyoshi in hotel lobby. Bellboys take DJ bags on trolley. Hotel lift 32 floors. Tense, fast. Hotel room. Ordering room service, freshen up, can't open window, emotions of height. Phone call to DJ Carl Cox. Hotel lobby. Meeting next to a grand piano, told of trip to Nara. 3/4 size taxi to apartment. Minimalist design, meet Kiyoshi’s friend a video director, have smoke. City wander. Noodle man, white glove taxi driver. Walking lost on sake, following a postman back to hotel room. Towel next to door, borrowed smoke, MTV on cable, answering Frank's questions. Bullet train, 5 course meal, Zen temple, walking, thinking, peaceful people praying, as gift to Zen God for good luck. City mix 3am, recording street sounds, phone booth, cig, vending machines. Round meeting table, flowers, admin staff, round room, fax machines, phones ringing, eating noodles, engineers don't speak English, studio gear manuals in Japanese. Vocal booth, tuning synths, men in suits, staring through studio window. Record shop, meeting internationals, club flyers, found my first record, rare. Studio. Eating late breakfast, cereal from noodle bowl, Atari computer on, hammock up, drinking milk from noodle bowl, stroking Cornelius the cat. City taxi trip round expressway, past harbour lights to Electric Avenue, meet pop star David Byrne buying gadgets, buy same DAT Walkman. Karaoke bar. Hostess’ constantly filling drinks, singing, standing outside toilet with towel, Kiyoshi asks which one, on the house, whispers, Love Hotel, bar cabinet, taken to restaurant, live fish in tank, geisha girls. Next process our experience. Next 2 airport, need party time in Thailand, sitting by window of plane watching ground staff standing in line waving at us, goodbye. Will be back soon. Recharge.
